Welcome to Lamp Dating ("Lamp", "we", "us", or "our"). Lamp is operated by Codewise Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in a transparent, lawful, and secure manner.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your personal data. It applies to the Lamp Dating mobile application and the website at lampdating.com (collectively, the "Service").
By using Lamp, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Data
When you create a Lamp account, we collect the following information through our authentication providers:
- Email address
- Phone number
- Full name
- Authentication tokens and identifiers
2.2 Profile Data
To create your dating profile, you may provide the following information. Some of this data constitutes special category data under UK GDPR, which we process only with your explicit consent:
- Profile photos
- Bio and written prompts
- Gender and pronouns
- Date of birth / age
- Location (city, neighbourhood)
- Interests and hobbies
- Occupation and education
- Lifestyle preferences, including drinking, smoking, exercise, and dietary habits
- Relationship goals and dating intentions
- Ethnicity and racial background (special category data)
- Religious beliefs (special category data)
- Political views (special category data)
- Languages spoken
- Star sign
2.3 Location Data
With your permission, we collect precise GPS coordinates from your device to provide distance-based matching. You can control location access through your device settings at any time. When location permissions are revoked, we retain your last known location until you update or delete it.
2.4 Usage Data
We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including:
- App interactions (screens viewed, features used, swipe activity)
- Device information (model, operating system, unique device identifiers)
- IP address and approximate location derived from IP
- App version, crash logs, and performance data
- Date and time of access
2.5 Chat Messages
We store messages exchanged between matched users to deliver the messaging feature. Messages are stored in our database and retained in accordance with our data retention policy described in Section 8.
2.6 Push Notification Tokens
We collect device tokens to deliver push notifications, such as new match alerts and messages. You can disable push notifications through your device settings.
2.7 AI-Generated Content
Our Service uses artificial intelligence to generate personalised content, including compatibility notes, conversation starters, and date ideas. This generated content is associated with your profile and stored alongside your account data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
- Account creation and authentication: To create and manage your Lamp account via our authentication providers.
- Profile display and matching: To show your profile to other users and to calculate compatibility based on your preferences, location, and profile information.
- AI-powered features: To generate personalised compatibility scores, conversation starters, date ideas, and suggested bio content using artificial intelligence (see Section 5 for details on data shared with our AI service providers).
- Content moderation: To review profile content, photos, and messages for compliance with our community guidelines, using both automated (AI-based) and manual moderation.
- Messaging: To facilitate chat between matched users.
- Push notifications: To send you relevant alerts about matches, messages, and Service updates via our push notification service.
- Location-based services: To show approximate distances between users and provide geographically relevant matches.
- Safety and security: To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and violations of our terms of service.
- Analytics and improvements: To understand how users interact with the Service and to improve functionality, features, and user experience.
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
4. Lawful Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, we rely on the following lawful bases for processing your personal data:
- Contract (Article 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary for the performance of our contract with you, including account management, profile display, matching, messaging, and core app functionality.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): Where you have given explicit consent, including for the processing of special category data (ethnicity, religion, political views), location data collection, push notification delivery, and AI-powered personalisation features. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 11).
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): Processing necessary for our legitimate interests, including fraud prevention, security, analytics, and Service improvement, where these interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): Where processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject.
For special category data (such as ethnicity, religious beliefs, and political views), we rely on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a) of the UK GDPR. You may choose not to provide this data, and you may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
5. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
We share your personal data with the following third-party service providers who process data on our behalf. Each provider is bound by data processing agreements and is required to handle your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
5.1 Authentication and Notification Services
We use third-party authentication providers to verify your identity and deliver push notifications. These providers process your email address, phone number, authentication tokens, and device identifiers.
5.2 Artificial Intelligence Services
Lamp uses third-party AI service providers to power AI-based features, including compatibility matching, content moderation, bio generation assistance, conversation starters, and date ideas. To provide these features, the following data may be sent to our AI service providers for processing:
- Profile information (bio text, interests, preferences, relationship goals, lifestyle preferences)
- Prompt responses you have written
- Chat messages (for content moderation purposes only)
- Photos (for content moderation purposes only)
Our AI service providers process data solely to generate responses and do not use data submitted through their API to train their models. We have Data Processing Agreements in place with our AI service providers to ensure appropriate safeguards for your data.
5.3 Data Storage and Hosting
We use our cloud database and storage provider to store your account data, profile information, chat messages, photos, and all other data generated through your use of the Service. Our storage provider is based in the United States.
5.4 Other Disclosures
We may also disclose your personal data in the following circumstances:
- To comply with a legal obligation, court order, or lawful request by public authorities
- To protect and defend our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users or the public
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets, in which case the successor entity will be bound by this Privacy Policy
- With your explicit consent for purposes not otherwise described in this policy
6. Automated Decision-Making and AI Matching
Lamp uses automated processing, including artificial intelligence, to provide matching and personalisation features. Specifically:
- Compatibility matching: Our AI analyses your profile data, preferences, and activity to suggest compatible matches. This processing is necessary for the performance of our contract with you.
- Content moderation: We use automated systems to review profile content, photos, and messages for policy violations. Automated decisions that may restrict your account are reviewed by a human moderator before any action is taken.
- Personalised content: Our AI generates conversation starters, date ideas, and compatibility notes tailored to you and your matches.
Under UK GDPR Article 22, you have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that produces legal effects or similarly significantly affects you. Our matching algorithm assists in suggesting potential matches but does not make decisions that produce legal effects. If you believe an automated moderation decision has been made in error, you may contact us at hello@lampdating.com to request a human review.
7. International Data Transfers
Lamp is operated by Codewise Ltd in the United Kingdom. However, several of our third-party service providers are based in the United States. As a result, your personal data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries outside the United Kingdom.
Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR Article 46, including:
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
- Data Processing Agreements with each service provider
- An assessment of the legal framework in the recipient country to ensure an adequate level of data protection

8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. Specific retention periods are as follows:
- Account and profile data: Retained for the duration of your account. Upon account deletion, this data is permanently deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
- Chat messages: Retained for the duration of your account. Messages are permanently deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
- Photos: Retained for the duration of your account and permanently deleted from our storage systems within 30 days of account deletion.
- Location data: Your most recent location is retained while your account is active. Historical location data is not stored.
- Usage and analytics data: Retained in aggregated or anonymised form for up to 24 months for analytical purposes.
- Push notification tokens: Deleted when you log out, uninstall the app, or delete your account.
- AI-generated content: Retained for the duration of your account and deleted upon account deletion.
- Safety and compliance records: Records related to reports, bans, and safety investigations may be retained for up to 3 years after account deletion to protect the safety of our community and comply with legal obligations.
9. Data Security
We take the security of your personal data seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it, including:
- Encryption of data in transit using TLS/SSL
- Encryption of data at rest in our databases and storage systems
- Secure authentication via industry-standard authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, JWT)
- Row-level security policies in our database to ensure users can only access data they are authorised to view
- Regular security assessments and vulnerability monitoring
- Access controls limiting employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis
- Secure API communication between our app and backend services

Our mobile application does not use cookies. However, the app collects device identifiers and usage data as described in Section 2.4. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings or through any cookie consent mechanism displayed on our website.
11. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Article 15): You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification (Article 16): You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure (Article 17): You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. You can delete your account directly within the app, or by contacting us.
- Right to restriction of processing (Article 18): You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability (Article 20): You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Article 21): You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data where we rely on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: Where we rely on your consent to process your data, you may withdraw that consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
- Rights related to automated decision-making (Article 22): You have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you, and to request human review (see Section 6).

12. Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information:

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Lamp does not sell your personal information, and we have not sold personal information in the preceding 12 months. We do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising purposes. Our third-party service providers process data solely on our behalf and under our instructions, which does not constitute a "sale" or "sharing" under the CCPA/CPRA.
To exercise your California privacy rights, contact us at privacy@lampdating.com. We will verify your identity before processing your request. You may also designate an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf.
13. Children's Privacy
Lamp is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a minor, we will take immediate steps to delete that data and terminate the associated account.

14. How to Exercise Your Rights
You can manage your data and exercise your rights in the following ways:
- Delete your account:You can delete your account directly from the app by navigating to Settings and selecting "Delete Account". This will permanently remove your profile, photos, messages, and associated data within 30 days.
- Request a data export: You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you in a machine-readable format by emailing privacy@lampdating.com.
- Update your profile: You can edit or remove profile information at any time within the app.
- Manage location permissions:You can enable or disable location access through your device's system settings.
- Manage push notifications:You can enable or disable push notifications through your device's system settings.
- Withdraw consent: For data processed on the basis of consent (such as special category data), you can withdraw your consent by updating your profile or contacting us.
For any rights request, please email privacy@lampdating.com with the subject line "Data Rights Request". We will acknowledge your request within 48 hours and fulfil it within one month, unless we notify you of an extension (up to two additional months for complex requests), as permitted under UK GDPR.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Notify you via an in-app notification or push notification
- Where required by law, seek your consent for material changes to how we process your personal data
